There are just two weeks left until the start of the 31st Westfield Health British Transplant Games and the push is on to get as many people as possible involved and signed up to the NHS Organ Donor Register.
Andrew Raftery, chairman of the Games organising committee with Graham Moore.
The Games, running August 7 to 11 across Sheffield, will see hundreds of people who have had their lives changed by receiving an organ donation taking part in a range of sports to highlight the difference an organ donation can make.
Members of the public, businesses and families can get their running shoes on for the Star Donor Run on Saturday 9 August at 7pm at Don Valley Stadium. By signing up to the donor run, people from all walks of life can personally get involved with the Games.
Latest figures show that 400 people in the Sheffield region are waiting for an organ transplant. In 2007, 23 organ donors saved the lives of 74 people in the city.
Thousands of people across the region have already signed up to the NHS Organ Donor Register.
Since the start of the year, more than 16,000 people from South Yorkshire have signed up, compared with 9,000 at the same time last year.
Westfield Health Chairman Graham Moore said: "It is great news that so many people are being inspired by the Games and are joining theNHS Organ Donor Register.
"I carry a donor card myself and would encourage everyone to tell their friends and family and colleagues to sign up to the NHS Organ Donor Register and be a hero by giving the gift of life.
"The Games are fast approaching and we want as many people as possible in Sheffield to show their support in anyway they can by signing up as on organ donor and by coming along to support the events."
The 31st Westfield Health British Transplant Games will feature hundreds of people taking part in sporting events such as swimming, athletics, tennis, golf, cycling and many more.
