TV professor to speak at Westfield Health lecture

Leading health expert Professor Robert Winston is to be the guest speaker at this year's annual Westfield Health Lecture at Sheffield Hallam University.

Professor Winston, Chancellor of the University, is perhaps best known for his broadcasting work which has helped to popularise science and medicine among the public.

In addition to his successful TV career he has also written a number of popular science books for both adults and children, and is a sought-after speaker to adult audiences and to children in schools

A highly respected academic figure, Lord Winston is Professor of Science and Society, and Emeritus Professor of Fertility Studies at Imperial College, where he also runs a research programme into human reproduction. He has led the way in advances widely used in fertility and IVF treatment.

As a member of the House of Lords, Professor Winston regularly speaks in Parliament on science, medicine, education and the arts.

Westfield Health Chief Executive Jill Davies said: "Lord Winston is an eminent and respected expert in the world of science and medicine, making his lecture a must, not just for Westfield and Hallam University, but for the city too.

"It will be extremely interesting to hear Professor Winston share his views, experience and expertise with the audience."

The event will take place on Thursday 25 March at 7pm and will be held at Sheffield Hallam University's Pennine Theatre.

Due to popular demand, tickets for the event have now sold out. It is the third Westfield Health event in a series of annual lectures at the university on health-related subjects.
