The Games: Days Three and Four

Athletes

One of the highlights of the weekend’s action at the 31st Westfield Health British Transplant Games is the Star Donor Run at Don Valley Stadium on Saturday evening.

The race will see hundreds of members of the public running alongside transplant athletes to raise awareness about the success of organ transplantation and the need for more donors.

Westfield Health has entered its own 24-strong team into the Donor Run, so look out for them if you’re heading down to Don Valley on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, athletes will be hoping to make a splash in the swimming at Ponds Forge. First up are the adults in the morning, following by the children in the afternoon.

Ponds Forge is also the location for the senior and junior badminton competitions taking place throughout Saturday.

Elsewhere, there will be cycling at Meadowhall shopping centre, crown green bowls at Hillsborough Bowling Club and the mini marathon and walk at Don Valley Stadium.

The final day of The Games is dominated by the track and field events at Don Valley Stadium.

Adults and children will be taking part in a wide range of competitions including the hurdles, high jump, relay race, 100m sprint and an under-5s 50-yard dash.

The track and field day is the biggest day of the competition and is a fitting finale to four days of fantastic competition.

The athletes are then given a send off at the Gala Dinner on Sunday evening before making their way home on Monday – hopefully with a medal around their necks.

All the Games events are open to everyone (with the exception of the Gala Dinner) and entrance is free of charge.
