Westfield Health has reached a major milestone with the news that 100,000 of its policyholders are now covered by its scanning benefit.
The scanning benefit enables eligible policyholders to access MRI, CT and PET scans, which can detect serious conditions such as heart disease, brain disorders and cancer early at a treatable stage.
Once referred by a consultant, policyholders can call Westfield’s scanning helpline and a scan will be arranged on their behalf, the cost of which is covered by the policyholder’s plan.
Westfield Health Chief Executive Jill Davies said: “To reach more than 100,000 policyholders is a terrific milestone. This is excellent news for Westfield and underlines our commitment to the wellbeing of our policyholders, as well as to employers tackling absence issues.
“Westfield has always strived to anticipate and meet changing healthcare needs and develop products accordingly, and this scanning success is a shining example of how we are achieving that.”
Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind (NNAB) operates Westfield’s Chamber Primary Health Plan and the scanning benefit has helped several employees.
NNAB Deputy Director Julie Lythgoe said: “We’ve had three members of staff access scans through Westfield. Under normal circumstances they may have had to wait months but through Westfield they secured an appointment within a couple of weeks.
“Our sickness record isn’t too bad but, as with any organisation of our size, it’s not flawless. There’s no doubt that Westfield helped those employees who accessed scans to return to work more quickly.”
Westfield’s scanning benefit is provided by Alliance Medical, a company with 18 years’ experience in delivering a range of mobile and static diagnostic imaging solutions.
Dr Simon Mellor, Medical Director at Alliance Medical, said: “MRI scanning in particular is increasingly being used across even more specialties including oncology, gastroenterology and some aspects of haematology.
“Thanks to teleradiology and broadband connections, we have the ability to beam images from the scanners to consultant radiologists outside the site, helping us to secure expert opinions quickly and easily.
“We are very proud of our association with Westfield. This is a tremendous milestone which demonstrates how, working together, we can help patients access the latest scanning technology.”
The scanning benefit is available on Westfield’s Foresight, Chamber, Flex and IoD corporate health cash plans. It is also one of a range of optional benefits on offer to companies via the Westfield Mosaic flexible quoting system.
