Four days of intense sporting action came to an end last night with the close of the 32nd Westfield Health British Transplant Games in Coventry.
More than 1,000 people, including the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Coventry, transplant athletes, their families, sponsors and Games officials, filled the University of Warwick last night for the Gala Dinner, which officially closed the Games and celebrated the achievements of all the athletes who took part.
Over the weekend, more than 550 athletes from across the country competed in 18 events in a bid for medal glory.
Hundreds of medals were awarded to athletes over the course of the Games with the Sheffield Transplant Team having a very successful weekend.
Athletes from the Sheffield transplant team excelled in the swimming with Benjamin Pacey collecting the best male adult trophy and Briggetta Maria Greenway awarded the St Peters Trophy for the best female veteran.
Westfield Health Chairman Graham Moore presented the Ross Taylor Rose bowl Trophy for the overall best adult team to Belfast adults. Graham commented: “This years Games were a fantastic event and it was a privilege to attend the gala dinner and meet the athletes. I would like to wish them all congratulations for participating in the Games and making the event so successful.”
