The Master Cutler’s Challenge 2009 is off to a flying start thanks to a £5,000 donation from Westfield Health.
The aim of the challenge is to raise thousands of pounds for Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity.
Martin Howell, the Master Cutler, is encouraging 100 organisations from across the region to participate in the event. The entrepreneurial challenge, which raised over £200,000 last year, aims to promote creativity and teamwork among the business community.
Organisations have until March 6 to sign up and register for the challenge. Participating teams will be invited to a reception at the Cutler’s Hall where they will receive £50, and will then have six months to grow it into as much money as possible for the charity, in a legal and ethical way.
Michael Vaughan, former England Cricket Captain and Patron of the Charity, will be attending the reception on March 6 and will speak about his experiences of teamwork during the 2005 Ashes victory, to help to inspire the companies taking part.
Mr Howell is hoping that, in the current economic climate, the challenge will help organisations to build team spirit in the workplace. He is also keen to encourage businesses of all sizes to sign up and get involved.
He said: "I am thrilled to have launched this year’s challenge and to be supporting such a fantastic charity.
"The challenge is the perfect opportunity to give employees a positive focus and to encourage teamwork and ingenuity for such a worthy cause."
A gala awards dinner will be held at the Cutlers’ Hall in September where the winners of the challenge will be announced. The overall winner will be the organisation that raises the most money, but there will also be other awards presented on the night.
Westfield Health Chief Executive Jill Davies said: "There is no better time for businesses to focus on their employees’ productivity and motivation, and the challenge represents a great opportunity to boost staff morale by encouraging teamwork, innovation and creativity, while at the same time helping a worthwhile cause."
