Westfield rewarded for 90 years of excellence
Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce has awarded a special certificate to Westfield Health to mark its 90th anniversary.
The certificate was presented to Westfield’s Head of Field Sales Stephanie Cooper by BBC Look North’s Harry Gration at the Chamber’s Business Awards ceremony.
Anniversaries were very much the theme of the glittering awards ceremony, held at Magna in Rotherham, as the Chamber itself was celebrating its centenary year.
A patron of Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber, Westfield started out as the Sheffield Consultative and Advisory Hospitals Council in 1919. The ‘penny in the pound’ scheme – the forerunner of today’s health cash plan – was formed to help workers access free hospital treatment in return for a weekly contribution of a penny.
Ninety years on, the company now provides healthcare plans for more than a third of a million policyholders throughout the UK, and more than 9,000 organisations nationally operate a Westfield plan for their employees.
Westfield’s Chamber Primary Health Plan is the official health cash plan of the British Chambers of Commerce.
Andrew Denniff, Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber Policy and Communications Manager, said: “The certificate is recognition not only of our excellent relationship with Westfield, which goes back many years, but also the organisation’s 90th anniversary.
“While the certificate rewards Westfield for its longevity, it also salutes the company’s excellence in business in the region over that period, which is obviously something we’re very committed to encouraging as a Chamber of Commerce.”
Westfield’s Stephanie Cooper said: “As a company, we are constantly striving to meet the needs of our policyholders and the changing health insurance market, so we feel extremely proud to be celebrating our 90th year.
“We work very closely with Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber so the certificate is a great way to mark a significant milestone in our history and to commemorate our longstanding relationship. Hopefully we’ll be back in 10 years time to celebrate our centenary.”
