Give the gift of life

Donor Register

As title sponsor of the British Transplant Games for the second consecutive year, Westfield Health is proud to be associated with one of the most emotional sporting events of 2009.

The main aim of the Games is to raise awareness of organ transplantation and encourage people to sign on to the NHS Organ Donor Register. This week, July 5 – 12, is National Transplant Week and with the Westfield Health British Transplant Games just three weeks away, it presents a great opportunity to sign on to the register and give the gift of life.

National Transplant Week is devoted to promoting organ and tissue donation and is run by the Transplant Trust. Throughout the week the trust supports a number of high impact events which result in a dramatic upturn in the number of new donor registrations.

On Friday July 10 the Transplant Trust is inviting everyone to take part in ‘Dress Red Day’ to celebrate National Transplant Week and to offer support for the trust’s work. This is a first for the charity with many companies and organisations pledging to take part already.

Helping others is at the heart of the Westfield Health philosophy and its Charitable Trust every year makes substantial donations to the NHS and medically related charities, helping to improve the lives of many people throughout the UK. Since 1996, donations have totalled more than £7 million.

This varied giving has included life-saving medical equipment for NHS hospitals and donations to a number of key charity appeals.

Westfield Health Chairman Graham Moore explained: “It has been a source of particular pride that Westfield has become synonymous not only with ethical and quality products, but also with making a significant contribution to the communities it serves.

“Westfield is also lucky enough to be in a great position to encourage employees and employers to engage in fundraising activities that can help charities and, at the same time, help to build a strong spirit of social, ethical and environmental responsibility within the business community.

Graham added: “The Games are inspirational and a great way to raise awareness of the need for more organ donors. The Games provide a real showcase of the benefits of organ donation and prove that transplantees can lead a normal and active life again after transplantation.

“I carry a donor card myself and would encourage everyone to sign up to the NHS Organ Donor Register and be a hero by giving the gift of life.”
