Peter Price – Advantage Plan

Cllr Peter Price MBE has been a Westfield Health policyholder for more than 40 years – and his energy levels, not to mention his commitment to both fitness and fund-raising, are showing no signs of waning.

The 70-year-old Sheffield councillor is Chair of Sport England Yorkshire and his spare time is often spent participating in fund-raising activities.

Peter said: "It is my belief that there are thousands like me, older people who need a catalyst to get them going, because reaching a certain age does not mean we lose the desire to be part of the sporting scene.

"We may be slower with less flexible joints but, nevertheless, the desire and passion remains for sport.

"Sixty-year-olds today are not those of 25 years ago and they are not invalids. Many more of us are alert and willing to keep active if society gives us a chance."

Always an active man, Peter started running as a hobby and to maintain fitness in his teens.

As well as adopting a proactive attitude to fitness, he has also decided to take care of his health in other ways, and has been a Westfield Health policyholder for decades.

Peter said: "I joined Westfield’s Advantage Plan because I was running a lot when I was younger and was suffering with tendon and Achilles trouble. Westfield helped with my physiotherapy costs for the Achilles problem, but over the years I have used it for chiropractic treatment for my back as well as the standard dental and optical.

"My wife was also a policyholder and when she was ill and in and out of hospital a lot, the plan proved invaluable.

"I was drawn back into sporting activities when I lost my wife through cancer and felt compelled to do something to repay Macmillan nurses.

"At 65 I took on the Macmillan Challenge to cycle 400 miles across Ecuador to raise money.

"From then on I was away climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, cycling across Cuba and from London to Paris – but believe me, I am not exceptional. All I needed was something to stimulate me into action."
