A total of 150 swimmers from across the UK took part in The British Learning Disability Swimming Championships, sponsored by Westfield Health.

This year marked the 10th anniversary of The Championships, run jointly by Mencap and Special Olympics GB. The event saw swimmers compete in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and an individual medley, and Westfield Health’s Head of Intermediary Sales, Steve Sharrock, attended the event to present winning medals.

Also in attendance was Paralympics gold medallist and Mencap ambassador Jessica-Jane Applegate, who challenged the other swimmers to race against her.

Our Chairman, Graham Moore said: “We are delighted to have sponsored The British Learning Disability Swimming Championships. This important event highlights that people with a learning disability can compete as elite athletes – a message we’re very proud to be spreading.

“We’d like to congratulate everyone who took part in the event and made it such a wonderful weekend.”

Jessica-Jane Applegate added “A massive well done to everyone who took part and thank you for everyone who made this event possible!”.
