Westfield Health named major partner for Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre.

Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre - signing the agreement

The Minister for Public Health has today named Westfield Health as a major partner for Sheffield Hallam University’s Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre (AWRC).

At a signing ceremony held at the Olympic Legacy Park in Sheffield, Jane Ellison MP welcomed our new partnership.

The AWRC is a joint venture between Sheffield Hallam, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Sheffield City Council, and we join Toshiba as a Tier One partner of the initiative.

We will be supporting the AWRC with a cash and match in kind contribution, helping the centre to create ‘innovations that help people move’ and become the most advanced research and development centre for physical activity in the world.

Our Executive Director David Capper said: “We’re delighted to become the second major partner of the AWRC and excited about helping the local community to engage in physical exercise and develop healthier lifestyles.

“One of the benefits of the AWRC will be reduced dependency on the health service. At Westfield Health, we firmly believe that prevention is better than cure, so we work with our own staff and customers to promote the benefits of moving more as a way of improving overall wellbeing.

“As a not for profit organisation, we’re proud to champion health and wellbeing in the workplace and in the community, and the ethos and values of the AWRC closely match our own.

“By supporting this venture, we’ll be helping people to take charge of their own wellbeing while reducing some of the pressure on the NHS – at a time when the need to reduce demand on the service has never been greater.

“This is a really proud moment for us and we’re really looking forward to working together on this innovative and pioneering project.”

The AWRC will play a leading role in revolutionising sport, healthcare, physical activity and leisure. Based at the Olympic Legacy Park, it will feature indoor and outdoor facilities for over 50 researchers to carry out world leading research on physical activity in collaboration with the private sector.
