Westfield Health supporting Autism Plus 21-mile walk
Westfield Health are delighted to announce their support for Autism Plus in the run up to their 21-mile sponsored walk taking place today (4 April).
To celebrate their 30th anniversary, Autism Plus have organised a sponsored walk to four football grounds across South Yorkshire. They have also launched a campaign to support the walk, entitled the Challenge 30 Appeal, which is encouraging 30 companies to donate £1000 to Autism Plus, in order to raise a total of £30,000.
Westfield Health are pleased to be donating £1000 to the charity towards their sponsored walk and the Challenge 30 Appeal.
The charity’s Football4Autism walk began at Rotherham United at 8:00am, and will stop at Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United, before finishing at Chesterfield FC.
All the money raised through the event will go to buy sports equipment to update their specialised gym, Access Fitness, at the Concord Sports Centre.
The gym has been specifically designed to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities and mental health diagnoses, so they can exercise in a welcoming environment. The gym is user-friendly with the latest equipment and adapted communication tools.
Westfield Health is passionate about ensuring that everyone has access to quality wellbeing provision and are proud to support Autism Plus as they improve access to fitness and training for people with autism.
Andy Girdham, Community Fundraiser for Autism Plus, said: “We are incredibly thankful that Westfield Health are supporting our sponsored walk and Challenge 30 appeal.
“The money we raise through our sponsored walk will help to provide sports equipment for our specialist disability and mental health focused gym, allowing people with autism and complex conditions to access the tools they need to keep fit and healthy.
“A sponsored walk is the perfect way to fundraise for our gym, raising awareness of our charity while encouraging everyone to make the commitment to prioritise their fitness and wellbeing.”
“Westfield Health have supported us in the past and we are very grateful that they are supporting us once again through our sponsored walk.”
Graham Moore, Chairman of Westfield Health, said: “We are a long standing supporter of the charity and it’s great to backing Autism Plus in their 30th year of supporting people with autism across the North of England.”
“Autism Plus is a very worthwhile charity. Autism affects people across the world, with an estimated 1 in every 100 people in the UK having an autism spectrum condition.
“We wish everyone the very best of luck who is taking part in the walk today.”
