Cancer foundation receives £2.5k donation from Westfield Health

Rosemere cancer foundation

The Rosemere Cancer Foundation, a regional charity which raises funds to support cancer patients in Lancashire and South Cumbria, has received £2,500 from Westfield Health.

The donation has been put towards the refurbishment of the relatives and day rooms on The Ribblesdale Cancer Ward at the Royal Preston Hospital, providing valuable facilities for patients and their families.

The rooms are being transformed into more modern and calming environments to offer better support for patients and their families, and the money that we’ve donated has been used to purchase four matching chairs and a comfortable sofa.

Both rooms adjoin the 28 bed ward, which is used by cancer patients from across Lancashire and South Cumbria, some of whom may require complex chemotherapy with simultaneous radiotherapy as part of their treatment.

The renovation works will transform them into contemporary and comfortable environments so that in the day room, patients will soon have a welcoming space in which to socialise and spend time with their families and friends away from their bedsides.

The Rosemere Cancer Foundation was formed in 1997 to help raise funds for equipment and facilities that the NHS is unable to fund for patients being treated for cancer

The Foundation’s aim is to deliver world class cancer services and treatment locally and invest in local cancer research giving patients early access to new techniques and treatments.

Sue Thompson, Chief Officer at Rosemere Cancer Foundation, said: “On an acute oncology ward like the Ribblesdale, having a quiet space where relatives can go is a really valuable facility. It is a private area where people can be alone or receive one-to-one support from clinical staff away from the ward itself.

“The donation from Westfield Health means such a lot to us. It is important that we make the room as comfortable and non-clinical as possible, and the chairs and sofa we have been able to purchase with this money will make such a difference.

“It will help to make the cancer journey more comfortable for the thousands of patients and their families that may use the ward each year.”

Rosemere Cancer Foundation also received a donation from us in 2014 when it was the nominated charity for the company’s annual golf day.

Graham Moore, Westfield Health Chairman, said: “Rosemere Cancer Foundation is an extremely valuable cause which we are delighted to support.

“We’re pleased to hear that our latest donation has helped to purchase such important facilities for the relative’s room, which can provide a haven both for those receiving treatment and those supporting loved ones through their cancer journey.”
