Westfield Health makes ‘Artfelt’ donation

Magic and origami workshop run by Manchester-based magician David Deanie

Young patients at Sheffield Children’s Hospital were given the chance to get creative at a magic and origami workshop, thanks to a £1,000 donation from Westfield Health.

We made the donation to The Children’s Hospital Charity’s Artfelt programme, which uses art to create a more comfortable environment within the hospital.

Working with Sheffield Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Artfelt transforms the hospital’s walls and spaces with bright art, helping children recover in an environment tailored to them.

It also runs workshops for patients, to provide distraction during anxious moments, such as before an operation, and to break up long stays on the wards.

Part of the donation went towards sponsorship of one of the twice-weekly workshops Artfelt runs throughout the year - a magic and origami workshop run by Manchester-based magician David Deanie.

Cat Powell, manager of Artfelt, The Children’s Hospital Charity’s arts programme, said: “This incredible donation from Westfield Health will help continue the work of Artfelt at Sheffield Children’s Hospital by sponsoring an art workshop for our young patients.

“Twice a week, our dedicated arts coordinator brings creativity to our wards, making hospital feel better by engaging patients in fun and creative workshops, whether they are staying in hospital long term, or just for a few hours.”

David Vernon-Edwards, director of The Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “Westfield Health are long-term supporters of ours, helping us keep our hospital at the forefront of paediatric care. Thanks to this donation we could fund four workshops for our children throughout the year. The Children’s Hospital Charity can’t provide these services to children without the generous support of our donors, like Westfield Health.”

Our Chairman Graham Moore said: “We have been supporters of The Children’s Hospital Charity for many years and we are delighted to pledge this latest donation to contribute to the Artfelt programme. Making a child’s stay in hospital as comfortable and stress-free as possible is vital, and art can contribute significantly to this. It’s fantastic to know that our donation is enabling children to get creative and have fun.”
