Sheffield Transplant Team gets £1K boost from Westfield Health

British Transplant Games in Liverpool 2016

A team of athletes from Sheffield who have all undergone lifesaving transplants are set to compete at the Westfield Health British Transplant Games in Liverpool this month.

The Sheffield Transplant team, who have all had kidney transplants at the Northern General Hospital, will be taking part in the Games, one of the UK’s largest multi-sport events, which is organised by the charity Transplant Sport.

The Games will welcome over 2,500 people to Liverpool between 28 and 31 July 2016. Over 800 participants who have received life changing organ, tissue and stem cell donations will compete in sporting events at multiple destinations across the city including Wavertree Sports Park Tennis Centre.

The Sheffield team have received a boost of £1,000 from Westfield Health in order to help fund the team’s participation at the 2016 Games.

Charlotte Morton, Sheffield Transplant Team, manager, said: “We are delighted and so grateful for the donation from Westfield Health.

“All the athletes competing at the Games have to self-fund in order to take part and the donation from Westfield is helping our team with travel costs.

“We are really looking forward to going to Liverpool and representing Sheffield. The Games really do showcase all the benefits of transplantation and are such an inspirational event to be part of.”

The 8 members of the Sheffield Transplant Team are hoping to bring medals back home in the archery, ten pin bowling, cycling, crown green bowling and track and field events.

Graham Moore, Westfield Health Chairman, said: “We are longstanding supporters of the British Transplant Games and in particular the Sheffield Transplant Team.

“It is a pleasure to be able to support the team again this year and we are looking forward to watching them compete and I am sure they will do Sheffield proud.
