Life changing equipment for MS charity thanks to Westfield Health

A self-funded South Yorkshire charity based in Catcliffe has received a £5,000 donation to provide a cutting-edge piece of equipment which will help transform the lives of people with a lifelong condition.

The Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre (South Yorkshire) Ltd, a charity that provides support and care to those with MS and other neurological conditions, has used the donation from Westfield Health to purchase a ‘THERA-Trainer balo 365’ – a piece of equipment that helps participants both physically and psychologically to maintain an upright position for a period of time.

Without the equipment, the ability to stand alone wouldn’t be possible for the centre’s members. The trainer works with people to rediscover and develop their centre of gravity, improve posture and work on their balance. The trainer also helps improve core strength and body movements which wouldn’t normally be possible.

As well as improving standing and posture, the equipment works to maintain an upright position which improves breathing, the digestive system and stability of the body’s core.

MS Therapy Centre is a self-funded, volunteer led centre which focuses on offering people a chance to benefit from a combination of non-intrusive, holistic, complementary therapies and practical support to those with MS and other neurological conditions.

Julia Conlan-Greaves, centre manager at MS Therapy, said: “We can’t thank Westfield Health enough for their generous donation. The new equipment has already helped so many people and it’s become vital for us to have on-site.

“We’ve already seen some fantastic results and we’ve had great feedback from both our clients and our physiotherapists.”

Graham Moore, Westfield Health chairman, said: “MS Therapy Centre is an excellent organisation working tirelessly to support those who live with MS. We are delighted to be able to help them in their work and to purchase such ground-breaking equipment.”
