Ever feel sluggish at the end of the working day, like you’ve been chained to your desk? Is the stroll to the printer the most you’ve moved for hours? You’re not alone.

Inactivity is one of the biggest threats to our health. But getting on your feet and walking, even for just 20 minutes, is proven to have great physical and mental health benefits. It can make you feel better inside and out.

Which is why Westfield Health is bringing back Walking Lunch for National Walking Month in May 2017. We’re inviting you to reclaim your lunch break and get out walking.

You can sign up as a team or an individual to track your steps on our leaderboard and see how you’re doing against others in the UK. We’re offering fantastic prizes for the most active participants, including vouchers, fitness trackers and £1,000 cash towards a health and wellbeing initiative in your workplace.

Last year we inspired nearly 3000 people to walk over 72 million steps — that’s more than the circumference of the earth — and this year we’re determined to go even bigger and better.

Living Streets

Our partner for Walking Lunch is the UK’s walking charity Living Streets. This year’s theme for National Walking Month is Walking Cities. The cities we live and work in are fascinating places to explore on foot. You miss so much history, architecture and other hidden treasures on the bus, in a car, or stuck at your desk. That’s why, for Walking Lunch 2017, we’re sponsoring the Crumbs City Trail app.

Three simple steps

step 1

Register as a team or sign up as an individual. Please provide your name, email address, company name and team name (if applicable).

step 2

From the start of May, you’ll be able to start logging your steps using our online portal. If you’re lacking inspiration for where to walk, try using the Crumbs trail app to find a walking trail near you.

step 3

Track your progress from the 1st to the 31st May. Use the hashtag #WalkingLunch on Instagram and Twitter to share your selfies, walking tips and the sights you see following the Crumbs trails. We’ll announce the winners after the 31st of May.

Tracking your steps

Anyone with a smartphone can track their activity and many of us have wearable devices that can do the job too. Here are a few apps you can download to a smartphone to keep track of the steps you take during your Walking Lunches. Or you can take the more analogue route and use a pedometer.
