Halo Leisure employs over 500 people in the leisure industry. The business set out to enhance their staff benefit offer and help to promote health and wellbeing within the workplace.

The challenge

Halo Leisure recognised the need for additional wellbeing support in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. They wanted to reduce sickness absence levels and offer a range of wellbeing support to complement this process.

The data

The business set clear aims for their wellbeing programme based on where support was most needed, primarily around mental health and wellbeing during the return-to-work post-pandemic.

Halo Leisure is based across multiple counties, so their support needed to be flexible and easy to access wherever their people work.

They set their budget to ensure maximum value, aiming for under £50 per head per year of employer contribution.

The solutions

Halo Leisure took a preventative approach to their wellbeing strategy. They chose a health cash plan to provide physical, mental and financial wellbeing support, allowing their people to claim money back towards the cost of their essential medical care.

They also invested in Mental Health First Aid training and a self-referral counselling service. Their online support platform offers wellbeing advice and a range of self-directed learning tools, so colleagues can access support wherever they work.

The business impact

They measured sickness absence levels throughout the process, which now sits at less than 5%.

The business has seen a year-on-year increase in employees using their health cash plan, which tells them that people find it valuable. They’ve set a target of one claim per head to ensure the cash plan is being used to its full potential and is providing good value for money.

They also measure the number of employees engaging with their online wellbeing services, with the confidential counselling service proving especially popular. This feedback will be used to inform future wellbeing investment as employee needs develop.
