Rotherham cancer charity benefits from donation

Rotherham Cancer Care

A Rotherham charity that provides vital services for people living with cancer can now see more patients thanks to a significant donation from Westfield Health.

We've donated £10,000 to Rotherham Cancer Care Centre so they can open their doors for an extra half a day a week.

The centre provides free care and support to Rotherham people who have been diagnosed with cancer, as well as their main carers. The highly trained and experienced staff offer assessment, complementary therapies and/or counselling but most of all help people to cope and improve the quality of their life.

As a charity, Rotherham Cancer Care Centre receives no recurrent funding and relies purely on donations from the local community and organisations such as ours.

Angela Bintcliffe, service manager, said: “We aim to support the people who come to our centre by providing services that complement the specialised care they will receive from the NHS. It is about offering psychological, emotional and spiritual support to people at all stages of their illness.

“We are so grateful to Westfield Health because their generous donation has meant we can open our centre for an extra morning a week. This has enabled us to see 23 more patients who can each receive a 6-8 week package of support.

“We have also managed to reduce our waiting list, which is fantastic. We want to continue to provide the services we do to our patients and donations like this make such a difference to a small charity like ours.”

Our chairman Graham Moore said: “Rotherham Cancer Care Centre provides a vital service to the people of Rotherham. We're delighted to make this donation so that more people can access the services on offer.

“Receiving a cancer diagnosis is terribly worrying, so having access to the expertise and support provided by the centre must be extremely reassuring for patients.”
