Westfield Health makes double donation to hospices
Two Midlands based hospices have received a total of more than £5,500 from Westfield Health to help them purchase and upgrade vital equipment.
We’ve donated £3,512 to Nottinghamshire Hospice in Nottingham and £2,180 to Treetops Hospice in Risley, Derbyshire, enabling patients at both organisations to benefit from the new, improved equipment.
Rowena Naylor-Morrell, Chief Executive Officer for Nottinghamshire Hospice, said: “The generosity of Westfield Health means our Day Therapy unit is able to purchase two much-needed treatment couches and a special suction unit used to clear mouth and airway blockages.
“The couches allow our patients to receive a variety of medical and therapeutic treatments in safety and comfort, while the suction units provide our clinical staff with access to vital equipment for use in both routine and emergency situations.
“We are most grateful to Westfield Health for these enhancements to our Day Therapy services.”
The team at Treetops Hospice has invested the funding in a hoist to improve patients’ mobility as well as enhance accessibility.
Julie Mehigan, Day Care Services Manager at Treetops Hospice, said: “The Oxford Midi hoist is used to transfer people, so they can move from their wheelchair to a more comfortable chair, the toilet or the bed.
“For some, their weekly visit to Treetops might be their only opportunity to get out of the house or have a bath. The hoist ensures we are able to do this comfortably, safely - for both the individual and staff - and with confidence.
“We will be able to monitor individuals’ weight to help with specific health conditions, too, as well as identify changes to wellbeing much sooner.
“The support from Westfield Health has enabled us to obtain this high-quality equipment, which we wouldn’t otherwise have been able to do. This means more people are able to access our services and benefit from the social environment of day care, while, at the same time, we can continue to provide valuable respite for carers.
“We very much appreciate this donation and would like to thank Westfield Health for their generosity.”
Our Chairman Graham Moore said: “Both of these hospices do a wonderful job of providing end of life care for patients, as well as respite for their carers, against a backdrop of rising demands for their services.
“We’re very pleased to be able to make this contribution and support the sterling work they do for their local community.”
